Are search engines more worthwhile?

The “number one” issue - the question that I (and probably every other Internet for sales on the planet), the most often asked:

“How can I get number one in search engines for widgets? After all, my company is the world leader in widgets - it is ridiculous, anyone other than these companies come in search engines before we … ”

My answer is almost always along the lines of:

“Remember that, now, and Get a Life!”

OK, I’m a little more tact, that - and I am from time to time for the search engines a general rule, but I will customers spend their promotional budget website other respects.

Here are the main reasons why I am not free generally satisfied with search engines:

1. You really careful in the choice of keywords

Many people make the mistake of focusing on very generic. Not only are they more difficult to obtain in the best placement, but not to create more targeted traffic.

A prospect recently approached me for help at the site of coaching. This page encourages teleseminars to help our customers implement life changes described in the books of motivation. This perspective first said he wanted to be “Number One” in search of books.

I suggest it would be virtually impossible to challenge each search engine optimization. But also looking for someone to “books” is really looking for Amazon or Barnes & Noble, not teleclasses my clients. He has a lot of money for very few qualified prospects.

2. You must speak the language of your visitors

We all talk about “geekspeak” - often it is second nature to us in our industry or field. And it is easy to forget that our prospects are not always the same terminology. One of the areas, in texts that I see is technology distribution, when people try to describe their products to market non-technical - the result is usually incomprehensible!

But there is also the jargon, which we consider as a matter of pride, or because we have lost sight, as well as we believe our markets.

I recently with an association of plastic surgeons. They had their membership database on its website, and wanted to attract visitors to find a local doctor.

Their “Number One” target for search engines keyword was “rhinoplasty”. Now, I can only these sorts only because I saw the article - but, in general, you and me in public opinion would never think that - of course, we are looking for. . . “Nose jobs”!

Surgeons articles on all not an academic point of view. But she had to admit the starting point, if I have evidence on the most common research is very handy Overture Search Term Suggestion tool http://inventory.overture.com/d/ searchinventory / suggestion.

3. It is very passive sales. . .

My most pressing argument for not too much time on search engines is free, it is a very passive form of marketing. You are on a prospective visitors in the morning and realize they need something that can offer you. So can you on their choice of keywords you’ve targeted to optimize the search engines. It is quite a success or failure of cases.

When I do not agree with myself?

There are few exceptions to this. I think that search engines are good value if you have one niche product or service very clear and well defined keywords.

For example, a member of the public to one of my latest programs worked on a site to sell some incredible Yoyos advances. I recommended a search engine, which - after all, if someone, “yoyo” as a search term, it would certainly be a qualified!

What do I do instead?

That is the subject of numerous other articles. Started to see twenty-three of my favorite techniques TIPSHEET in my free time.

But short, I prefer much more aggressive search for sites where your target markets are likely to read or search. Thus, you can proactively your ideas, products and services to them, where they are much more receptive and interested to be. And there are so many opportunities for different budgets and campaigns sizes, both online and offline.

Ie, are search engines more worthwhile?

I do not ignore the search engines. And I do, the better paid than the models, such as Overture.

But I suggest that you should be very clear about how much liability Sales You want to engage, and if the product or service you offer lends itself to this.

And if you decide to optimize your site for search engines, select keywords are in the heads of your customers. . . and be ready for the “number two” sometimes!
